Practice: Finding Meaning

Read each sentence and guess the underlined word:

  1. “The arid desert receives almost no rainfall.”

    • Clue: “no rainfall” → arid = trocken (dry)
  2. “She was famished after not eating all day.”

    • Clue: “not eating all day” → famished = ausgehungert (very hungry)
  3. “The tranquil lake was calm and peaceful.”

    • Clue: “calm and peaceful” → tranquil = ruhig (quiet, peaceful)
