Was ist ein hängender Modifikator?
Ein hängender Modifikator ist ein Ausdruck, der kein Wort im Satz klar modifiziert. Er “hängt” ohne richtige Verbindung.
Das Problem
Hängender Modifikator
❌ Walking to the store, the rain started.
Wer ging? Nicht der Regen! Das Subjekt fehlt.
Korrigiert
✓ Walking to the store, I got caught in the rain. ✓ While I was walking to the store, the rain started.
Frage dich immer: Wer führt die Handlung aus? Diese Person muss das Subjekt des Hauptsatzes sein!
Häufige Typen
1. Partizipialphrasen
Hängend:
- ❌ Exhausted from the hike, the bed looked inviting. (Das Bett war nicht erschöpft!)
Korrigiert:
- ✓ Exhausted from the hike, I thought the bed looked inviting.
- ✓ Because I was exhausted from the hike, the bed looked inviting.
2. Infinitivphrasen
Hängend:
- ❌ To win the game, practice is essential. (Übung gewinnt keine Spiele - Spieler schon!)
Korrigiert:
- ✓ To win the game, you must practice.
- ✓ If you want to win the game, practice is essential.
3. Präpositionalphrasen
Hängend:
- ❌ At the age of five, my father taught me to swim. (War dein Vater fünf?)
Korrigiert:
- ✓ At the age of five, I learned to swim from my father.
- ✓ When I was five, my father taught me to swim.
Wie man hängende Modifikatoren korrigiert
Methode 1: Das fehlende Subjekt hinzufügen
Hängend: Running quickly, the bus was caught. Korrigiert: Running quickly, I caught the bus.
Methode 2: Den Modifikator als Satz umschreiben
Hängend: Walking through the park, the birds were singing. Korrigiert: As I walked through the park, the birds were singing.
Methode 3: Den Satz umstrukturieren
Hängend: To bake a cake, eggs are needed. Korrigiert: You need eggs to bake a cake.
Falsch platziert vs. Hängend
Falsch platzierter Modifikator (falsche Position)
- ❌ She almost ate the whole cake. (Hat sie fast gegessen?)
- ✓ She ate almost the whole cake.
Hängender Modifikator (kein Wort zu modifizieren)
- ❌ Having finished dinner, the dishes were washed.
- ✓ Having finished dinner, we washed the dishes.
